Our learning
We have had another brilliant week in Seals class. It has involved mythical beasts, alternative openings and climbing Mount Everest. Read on to find out more…
English -
In English, the children have created a variety of narrative openings, focusing on either dialogue, description or action. We then began to plan our own narrative story, thinking about mythical creatures, intrepid explorers and evil, villainous beasts. Can you describe your mythical creature to your grown-up? We started writing our stories towards the end of the week, with a huge focus on our writing style and the addition of description. I can’t wait to continue to read the children’s narrative pieces as they add to them.
Maths -
Year 5 have been focusing on division this week. They have looked at using short division, division with a remainder and using efficient division involving factors.
Year 6 have moved on to thinking about decimals. This has involved thinking decimals and their place value, rounding decimals and adding and subtracting decimals.
Geography -
Our Topic unit this week has involved us learning all about Mount Everest. We learnt about how people prepare to climb this incredibly famous, yet dangerous mountain and what they need to accomplish this. We then created our own Mount Everest survival guides. We also researched the importance of the Yangtze River to China. Next week we will learn about the wildlife that has begun to thrive again here.
As usual homework was handed out on Tuesday 27th January and this should be in by Tuesday 3rd February. If you have any problems please do let me know.
