WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Commencing 17.3.25

We have had a fantastic week in Hedgehogs this week! Find out below what we have been up to.

Maths

In our Maths learning we have started our new unit on Place Value: Numbers up to 50. We have been learning about how to count to 50 using a number grid, and how we can count numbers to 50 using tens and ones. We learned how to count forward and backwards from 50 as well. Here are some challenges below. Can you work out the numbers below by counting forward/backwards from the starting number?

Here is also a challenge that you can have a go at with your grown-up! Can you work out which colour counter belongs to which child?

English

This week we have been learning about how to use exclamation marks and questions marks. We have been creating questions and exclamation statements about pictures about Kenya. We then wrote some sentences about some of the problems we have identified in Kenya. This is because next week we are writing letters to Mr Tague telling him about why we need to raise money for Kenya.  Have a look at the pictures below. Can you tell your grown-up about some of the issues in Kenya? Maybe you could write a sentence about it?

Geography

In our Geography lessons, we have been learning about Kenya's history. We talked about Kenya's flag and its meaning. We learned that the meaning behind the colour of the flag is a lot to do with Britain's past with Kenya. Look at the flag of Kenya below. Can you work out what each colour represents?

We also had a go at creating flags as well!

Geography - Making flags of Kenya!

We also learned about the Maasai tribes and the traditions that they have. We then designed and created our own Maasai masks! We even took the masks to Robins to show them and teach them about the Maasai, as they are learning about Africa at the moment!

Art - Making 'Tree of Life' sculptures out of paper!

Computing - Practising precise instructions by pretending to be Bee-Bots!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics learning this week, we have been recapping the ve, oi, ai and ay digraphs this week. Please use the Time to Read sheets to consolidate any sounds that your child may struggle with.

Next week, it is Parents Evenings. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress. Please get in touch if you need confirmation of your appointment time.

Have a lovely weekend!
