WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 12th May 2025

This week has involved the Puffins creating a piece of installation art, create their own poem based on a lighthouse and plan and design their own machine involving pulleys, gears or levers.

In English, we planned our own version of the Lighthouse poem thinking about which figurative language features that we have learnt they would use. We thought carefully about how a poem is set out and how we could make it as descriptive as possible.  Some wonderful examples of metaphors and similes were used, as well as alliteration and onomatopoeia.

In Maths Year 4 have been dividing a 1 or 2 digit number by 100, as well representing hundredths on a place value chart and understanding hundredths as decimals.  Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?

Year 5 have been learning about angles this week.  They have learnt about estimating angles using the knowledge they have about acute, obtuse, right angle and reflex angles, as well as measuring angles with a protractor.  Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?

The children learned all about levers, gears and pulleys in their Science lesson this week.  From this information they created a machine that used these features that would help them around the house.  We had a machine to help get sheep back into their field if they escaped, a machine to put away clothes and a machine to help you play on your xbox.

Our Art lesson involved us carrying on with our sculpture installation. We will finish this off next week by attaching all of our paper squares to their string and hanging them from the hoops on the ceiling.

I hope you have a lovely sunny weekend.

Stay safe
