Our Learning
Well, another week has just flown by in Seals class! It has involved practise papers, evolution and symbolism!
English –
After researching a type of poetry last week and creating a double-page spread plan, the children have written their poems this week. They have all followed the rules of their chosen poetry type well and have written poems based on some interesting themes! Today, they published their poems for the writing wall and even submitted their favourite poem for a writing competition!
Maths –
We have continued our four operations work this week, with a focus on division. This has involved using short division with integer answers, using short division to find answers with remainders and being introduced to the long division method.
History –
After learning about Egyptian jobs last week, the children thought about which job they would want if they were a part of the ancient civilisation and why. They then wrote a letter of application to a Pharaoh explaining why they wanted this ancient job and why they believe they are a suitable candidate. Later in the week, we started to understand more about ancient Egyptian beliefs. We focused on ancient gods and goddesses, and how important these were to daily life in Egypt. After researching about some of the most popular gods and goddesses, the children created top trumps cards to show off the skills and qualities of each god/goddess. Some children even ended up designing their own gods/goddesses and they had some brilliantly imaginative ideas!
Homework –
Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday.

The children completed their first practice SATs papers this week. Although it was only the first practice, the children handled them brilliantly! We have told the children not to stress about these papers or the results (especially as this is a first go and we are only 4 weeks into Year 6!), but please reassure them of this at home. The results and any development points we find from these assessments will be shared with you during parent consultation meetings and the papers will be sent home with the children over half-term.
Have a brilliant weekend,
Miss Bailey
