What a fantastic first full week we have had in Seals class! It has involved fossils, fitness and future goals!

English –

We started our first writing unit this week, which is diary entries. So far, this has involved comprehending the model text through annotations and drama, identifying features of a diary entry, and analysing the structure of a diary entry, using our model text as an example. We have also been busy during our 'SPaG' sessions - recapping word classes and relative clauses, and improving our proofreading, editing and improving skills.

Maths –

We began our place value unit of work this week. This has included representing numbers to 10,000,000 in different ways (words, numerals, counters on a place value grid, partitioning), placing numbers to 10,000,000 on a number line, increasing and decreasing values by powers of 10, comparing and ordering any integer and rounding any integer. We will finish our place value work next week and move on to the four operations.

History –

We have started our Ancient Egyptians unit of work this week. At the start of the week we became 'Egyptologists', analysing various Egyptian artefacts and considering what they might be and why they might have been important at that time. Later in the week, we looked at the time scale of the Ancient Egyptian period. We were given a selection of key events which took place during this time and were tasked with placing these in chronological order on a timeline. Once finished, we used information books to add our own fascinating facts to our timelines.

Homework –

Children will be given their first piece of homework on Monday. This week, we would like the children to focus on practising their spellings, learning their times tables and reading at home.
