Our Learning
We have had yet another jam-packed week in Seals class! It has involved odd socks, pyjamas and lots of learning along the way!
English –
It has been 'Hot Write' week in Seals class this week, meaning the children have been incredibly busy planning, writing and editing their discussion texts. The children have each independently selected a topic question they would like to write their debate about, but have ensured they maintain a balanced argument throughout. We will publish our work for the writing wall next week.
Maths -
We have completed our fractions unit of work this week. This has involved answering mixed operation problem-solving questions involving fractions, finding a fraction of an amount, and finding the whole. As we have reached the end of our unit and there are so many rules to remember when it comes to fractions, we spent yesterday's Maths lesson consolidating and revising our fractions work. Today, we completed a competitive Children in Need themed arithmetic scavenger hunt!
History -
Our ancient Greece work this week has been centred around homes and jobs. At the start of the week, the Seals discovered what the word 'Oikos' means and found out about the homes of ancient Greeks, learning what they looked like, what they were made of, the layout of most houses, what each room was like and the purpose of each room in the house. It was interesting for the children to discover that ancient Greek homes reflected the societal norms of this period of time, including the status and roles of men and women, which are very different to the views and roles represented in society today. Towards the end of the week, we began looking at what ancient Greeks would do for work. We analysed a selection of primary and secondary sources to identify various jobs and then completed a crossword, matching clues to a job from the ancient Greek era!
Homework –
Children have been given a creative piece of homework this week which is to design a poster for Anti-Bullying week. The task has been explained in class but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. The best posters will be displayed around school and the classroom!
Homework is due in school on Monday 18th November.
