Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas break.

We have had a marvellous start to 2025 in Seals class! It has involved reflection, location and creation!

English -

We have completed several writing tasks this week, each based around the theme of 'New Year'. Our first writing task was a diary entry where the children were asked to reflect on the year 2024 and look ahead to the year 2025. They were then tasked with writing and editing a flashback story, focusing on a key memory from the year 2024. Following this, the Seals wrote poems, in a poetic style of their choice, relating to their goals/aspirations for the year 2025. Finally, today, the children used their incredible imaginations to write a set of instructions for the 'perfect' year. The children have engaged brilliantly with our 'New Year' theme and we look forward to many more writing opportunities this term!

Maths -

This week, we started our much anticipated algebra unit. So far, this has involved using 1 and 2-step function machines, forming expressions, substituting numbers in place of letters and using simple formulae. Our algebra work will continue next week.

Geography - 

As we have moved into the Spring term, our topic lessons are now Geography based. Our country of study is 'Canada' and although we are only a week in, the children already seem engaged and fascinated by this country. So far our learning has involved describing the location of Canada and identifying the provinces of territories of Canada. The children have used a variety of maps and atlases to help them with their learning tasks this week.

Homework –

We will resume homework from Monday 13th January. In the meantime, children are encouraged to read at home, practise their spellings/times tables and work through some of their SATs revision books.
