It has been a very exciting week in Repton Primary School this week and Puffins have had a great time! We have worn odd socks for anti-bullying week and had a pyjama day to celebrate Children in Need!
In English we have been looking at biographies of different people related to our history topic of World War 2. We have continued to develop our understanding of the feature in a biography and begun to collect information on our own person related to WWII. Reviewing the features and incorporating our facts we have planned our own biographies this week.
In Maths, Year 4 have been looking at finding the area of a 2D shape by counting squares and progressing onto creating their own shapes with a specific area. We have used our symbols (<, > and =) to compare area of shapes. Year 4 finished off their area unit with a fun and creative lesson where they created area of shapes using a Minecraft theme that the children thoroughly enjoyed and showed great understanding. Can you use your learning to explain what mistake Tiny has made here?
In Maths, Year 5 have started a new unit looking at fractions. We built upon our prior knowledge of fractions looking at finding unit fractions, building to equivalent fractions before finishing off the week converting from mixed number fractions to improper fractions and vice versa. The children have worked very hard this week to use their multiplication and division knowledge to support their learning. Can you use your learning to explain to your adult why Tiny is right or wrong?
In Topic lessons this week we have continued with our new topic of World War II. This week we continued to look at conflict with a focus on D-Day. We looked at primary and secondary sources of information, their importance in helping everyone know what happened in a time before they were born and what the advantages and disadvantages of each are. We then finished our week off by reviewing the events on D-Day and how this helped change the course of WWII.
We have enjoyed the experiences this week, looking at anti-bullying week and this year’s theme of “choose respect” and have a lovely picture of all of the children’s feet together to celebrate this and show you all our choice of socks which the children enjoyed discussing. Please enjoy!
Have a lovely week!
