WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 04.11.24

Our Learning

We have had a lovely first week back in Seals class! It has involved changes, the circulatory system and powerful messages!

English -

Our first English unit this term is 'Discussion Texts'. This week, we have spent time understanding discussion texts by identifying their purpose, comprehending our model text and identifying structural and language features of the text type. Today, we conducted research around a chosen topic in preparation for planning and writing our discussion texts next week.

Maths –

We have continued our fractions unit of work this week. It has involved solving multi-step problems using fractions, multiplying fractions by integers, multiplying fractions by fractions and dividing any fraction by an integer. Our fractions work will continue into next week.

History -

We kickstarted our second 'ancients' topic this week, which is all about the ancient Greeks! At the beginning of the week, the children completed tasks which provided an introduction to the Greeks, teaching them about their legacy, who they were, where they lived, what their land was like, when they were around and some key historical events from this time period. The children discovered how we know about the life of the ancient Greeks and analysed some Greek pottery themselves to discover clues and paint a picture of their lifestyle. They then looked at key events which took place during the ancient Greek period and placed these in chronological order on a timeline. Later in the week we spent time learning what childhood was like for ancient Greeks and made comparisons to childhood today/childhood during the Egyptian times.

Wonderverse poetry competition

We are so thrilled and beyond proud that the Seals have ALL been successful with their poetry entries for the 'Wonderverse' Young Writers competition! We look forward to seeing their published work in a real-life book, which will be released in January! An incredible achievement - Well done Seals! :)

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 11th November 2024.
