Our Learning
It has been another extremely busy week in Seals class. It has involved equivalences, mould and The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
English -
In English this week we have been preparing for our next independent write. We will be writing a story suitable for a young child (aged 3-7 years old). Our learning so far has included identifying features of a children's book, considering their purpose and suitability, and planning a children's story of our own. The children have all created weird and wonderful characters and storylines and have thought carefully about vocabulary and techniques they will include to make their book engaging for its audience. The children are totally hooked by this unit of work so I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing their finished and published children's books next week!
Maths -
We are currently working through our Fractions, Decimals and Percentages unit of work. This week, we have been finding FDP equivalences, understanding percentages, and finding a percentage of an amount. Today, we celebrated NSPCC number day with a TTRockstars competition!
Geography -
In Geography this week we considered why Canada's location and physical geography makes it susceptible to natural hazards. We discussed the natural hazards that the country faces, understanding what they are, how they occur and the effects of these. We also considered why each hazard might occur in Canada specifically and looked at previous incidences in the country. Towards the end of the week, we began looking at the human geography of Canada. Our lesson included learning about some of Canada's major cities: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Quebec City and more. The children researched one of these major cities and created a fact file about this city, detailing the city's population, flag, famous attractions and climate.

Children have been given a piece of Maths and English homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The tasks have been explained in school, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to find me. Homework is due on Monday 10th February 2025.
