WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

02.10.26

We have had another incredibly busy week in Foxes class! It has involved assessments, songs and Egyptian Top Trumps!

In English this week, the children have been writing their own finding tales. They have worked hard to include as many features as possible from our 'writing toolkit', and I am really impressed with the detail and description in their work. It has been a pleasure to read their stories and see their plans come to life!

In Maths, the children have continued their four operations unit of work, with a focus on multiplication. This has involved multiplying a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number and using alternative methods for multiplication. We will be exploring division next week.

At the beginning of the week, in History, the children applied for an Ancient Egyptian job, thinking carefully about why they wanted the position and why they would be the perfect candidate for the role. Their applications were written as letters that would be sent to a pharaoh, so they had to be very persuasive! Later in the week, the children began learning about Ancient Egyptian beliefs. Our lesson focused on ancient gods and goddesses, and the important role they played in daily life in Egypt. After researching some of the most popular gods and goddesses, the children created Top Trumps cards to show off the skills and qualities of each deity.

In PSHE this week, as part of our 'Being Me' unit of work, we listened to the song 'This is Me' from the film, The Greatest Showman. After analysing the lyrics, we considered the key messages conveyed in the song and why these are so important. Following this, we worked in small groups to create our own rap or song containing key messages about discrimination, inclusion and respect.

Homework –

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Children are encouraged to practise their spellings and times tables, and read at home alongside this. Homework is due in school on Monday 5th October.

The children completed their first practice SATs papers/assessments this week and they all handled them brilliantly! We have told the children not to stress about these papers or their results (especially as this is a first go and we are only 4 weeks into the year!), but please reassure them of this at home. The results and any development points we find from these assessments will be shared with you during parent consultation meetings.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mrs Baker
