WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 19.10.26

Our Learning

I cannot believe we have reached the end of the first half term already! Our final week has involved paper making, Cleopatra and Harvest celebrations!

English –

This week, the children have been writing their own instructional texts. Whether teaching someone how to build a pyramid, paint an amulet, or carry out the process of mummification, they have all worked incredibly hard to produce clear, step-by-step guides that include the key features from our writing toolkit. A brilliant extended write, Seals - Well done!

Maths –

After finishing our four operations unit of work last week, we have begun our next unit: Fractions. So far, our learning has involved simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions, using number lines to find equivalent fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions. We will continue our fractions work when we return after the holidays. This will consist of: adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying fractions, and dividing fractions.

History -

Our Ancient Egyptian topic has now come to a close. Our final week of learning about the Egyptians revolved around conflict. We explored wars fought during this time, the weapons used by the Egyptians, tomb raiders, and the exceptionally interesting story of Cleopatra, the 'Queen of Egypt'. When we return, our history lessons will be centred around the Ancient Greeks!

Art -

We have ended our first half term with a very exciting task: Paper making! This week, the children produced their own version of the papyrus paper, applying the traditional techniques to produce a new material. Later in the week, once their creations had dried, the children transferred their scroll designs onto their handmade paper. Seals, your scrolls look fantastic - You should be very proud of yourselves!

Homework –

The children have been given their October assessments to look through over the half-term. They are also encouraged to read and practise their spellings/times tables alongside this.
