WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

How can I support my child?

Practising Times Tables

Regular practice of multiplication and division facts up to 12 × 12 will greatly support classroom learning and preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check. Times Tables Rockstar is an excellent game to practise these times tables in a fun format!

Talking About Maths

Encourage children to explain how they found an answer rather than simply providing it. Discussing mathematical thinking develops deeper understanding.

Using Maths in Everyday Life

Opportunities arise constantly in daily life:

  • Reading timetables and clocks.
  • Shopping and calculating change.
  • Measuring ingredients during cooking.
  • Estimating distances and quantities.
  • Comparing prices and budgets.
  •

Developing a Growth Mindset

In Year 4, we encourage children to see mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. Mathematics is not about being quick; it is about developing understanding, reasoning and confidence.

Through the White Rose approach, our aim is for every child to leave Year 4 as a confident mathematician who can calculate accurately, reason logically, solve problems independently and explain their thinking clearly. By working in partnership with families, we can help every child develop a positive attitude towards mathematics and achieve their full potential.
