WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

08.05.26

It may have been a shorter week than usual but we have still been as busy as ever in Foxes class! Our week has involved posters, photos and planning!

In English this week, we have continued our creative writing unit of work. At the beginning of the week, we edited and published our 'Boggy the Alien' stories from last week, concentrating on neat and clear handwriting. Towards the end of the week, we began planning another story. This time, we planned the characters, settings and plot individually rather than as a group. The Foxes have created some very interesting characters and storylines so I look forward to reading their short stories next week.

In Maths, Year 5 have been busy with their position and direction unit of work. This has involved reading and plotting coordinates, solving problems with coordinates, using lines of symmetry, and translating shapes.

Year 6 have done an incredible job in Maths this week. At the beginning of the week, we finished our final White Rose Maths unit which involved solving problems with co-ordinates, translating shapes, and reflecting shapes. Following this, we focused our attention to fractions, decimals and percentages, reminding ourselves of the numerous rules and methods required to solve these calculations. At the end of the week, we spent time consolidating various areas of learning in Maths in preparation for next week, including money, time, shape and measurement!

Homework -

Children have not been given a sheet of homework this week as we would like them to focus on revising their areas of need before the SATs are here. We do ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.

Spellings -

Year 6

Instead of a weekly spelling list, Year 6 have been advised to revise common spelling rules. Spelling, grammar and punctuation support can be found here: https://www.repton-pri.derbyshire.sch.uk/key-information/

Year 5 -

plough, drought, bough, rough, enough, tough, through, breakthrough, thorough, borough

Have an amazing weekend,

Miss Hanslow
