What a super first week we have had in Owls class to start the new term. It has been lovely to hear about the children's summer holiday break and fun activities they have enjoyed! Every week we will post a little something which will keep you informed of your child's learning. In bold font, there will be some questions for you to ask your child if you wish which follows on from their learning at school.
This week, we have started our new maths unit of learning - 'Place Value'. Children have been learning about partitioning, the value of each digit in a 2 digit number, counting forwards and backward and writing the names of numbers! Can you write a two digit number at home and identify which digit is the tens and which is the ones? Could you draw it with base 10 or counters?
We have also read 'Burglar Bill' as we will be using this story as a stimulus to produce a Wanted Poster. This week we have explored what features a Wanted Poster has as well as learn new adjectives that we can use in our own expanded noun phrases. Can you retell the story of Burglar Bill? Can you remember how Burglar Betty met Burglar Bill and what very important thing did he have that was hers?
In history, we have started our new topic 'Ingenious Victorians'. We have learnt about some of the inventions that came about in the Victorian time and considered if we use these items today. What item was invented beginning with a 'c' that people used to have annual family photos? What item was invented beginning with an 's' to help people to make and mend their clothes?
Please find a few important messages for the term ahead:
Reading Books
Books will be changed every Tuesday. Please bring reading diaries and books everyday. We are currently in the process of arranging a library book to come home alongside their phonics book.
PE Days
PE will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
Art
This half-term, we will be starting our art unit. To help protect school uniforms during activities involving paint, clay and other materials, please send your child in with an old oversized shirt that can be kept in school. Please bring this in by next Tuesday the 15th September.
Meet the Teacher
We will be holding a Meet the Teacher session straight after school at 3:30pm on Thursday 24th September. This will be a great opportunity to find out more about the year ahead and ask any questions you may have.
Thank you!
Miss Tymon & Mrs Taylor-Day
