WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 12.10.26

Our Learning

Another week has passed us by, leaving only one more week before October half-term. Our brilliant week has involved commands, wealth and celebrations.

English –

In English this week, we have continued to work on instructional writing. This has involved writing commands accurately, using the passive voice, and planning our own instruction text. At the beginning of the week, we wrote simple command sentences for various stages of the mummification process. Using the vocabulary we generated last week, we uplevelled our commands, adding adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions to give more detail. Following this, we were taught how to write instructions using the passive voice. We became best friends with modal verbs, changing commands such as 'Carefully remove the organs' to 'The organs should be carefully removed'. Finally, we planned our own set of instructions, sticking with an Ancient Egyptian theme. We thought carefully about the steps needed to complete our task and created a resource list to match. We will be writing and publishing our instructions next week.

Maths –

The children have completed their four operations unit of work this week. This has involved identifying square and cube numbers, using the order of operations, learning how to solve calculations mentally, using rounding to estimate answers, and reasoning from known facts.

History -

This week's history lessons have been based around the Egyptian economy. During our first lesson, the children learned about the power and wealth of the ancient Egyptians, understanding more about their trade links and recognising how goods were bought and sold during this period of time. After obtaining all of this knowledge, the children were tasked with solving a crossword puzzle relating to Ancient Egypt's trade and wealth or created an information page about the economy of ancient Egypt. In our second lesson, the children discovered facts about ancient Egyptian inventions. After conducting their own research, they each produced a poster to showcase all the wonderful things that the Egyptians created!

PSHE -

As October is Black History Month, our learning this week invited us to honour the contributions of black people to Britain's past, present and future. After discussing the origins and importance of Black History Month, we researched significant black individuals, considering why they are inspirational to others. These individuals included Marcus Rashford, Rosa Parks, Lewis Hamilton, Nelson Mandela, and many more! We concluded our session by sharing our thoughts and reflections about this year's theme: 'Honouring Our Communities'.

Homework –

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 19th October 2026.
