WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 07.09.26

Our Learning

What a brilliant first week back we have had in Seals! It has been wonderful welcoming back familiar faces and getting to know new ones, too. It sounds like they have all had a busy and exciting summer break, which is excellent!

English -

Our English work this week has been centred around our class animal, but not as you would expect! We have met a magical seal, named Moonfin, and also created mythical and magical seals of our own. The children's magical creations have then been the stimulus for writing. Over the week, the children have produced multiple pieces of writing, including diary entries, fact files and radio adverts. They have also worked on sentence structuring and developing their descriptive writing skills through the use of expanded noun phrases. We are only one week into Year 6 and I am already impressed with the writing being produced in Seals!

Maths –

We began our place value unit of work this week. This has included representing numbers to 10,000,000 in different ways (words, numerals, counters on a place value grid, partitioning) and placing numbers to 10,000,000 on a number line. We will continue our place value work next week.

History -

We have started our first Ancients topic this week, looking at the Ancient Egyptian civilisation. So far, our learning has involved discovering how we know about the past and understanding the chronology of Ancient Egypt. In our first lesson, we became Egyptologists and analysed evidence to see what information we could gather about the past. We discussed the types of evidence historians may use and assessed the reliability and importance of different artefacts. In our second lesson, we produced a timeline of key events which took place during the Ancient Egpytian period. We explored the three kingdoms, thinking about what was most important during that time. Next week, we will be learning about Ancient Egyptian childhood.

Homework –

Children will be given their first piece of homework next week. This week, we would like the children to focus on practising their spellings, learning their times tables, and reading at home.
