Our Learning
Wow! What a week it has been! With the temperatures soaring, we have had a very unusual week, with a Brass Performance, Sports Day and early pick-ups, we have still been incredibly busy! Read on to find out more.
English -
In English this week, we have continued using the book ‘The Boy in the Tower’ as our stimulus. We used the next few chapters to create a poster outlining how to stay safe while the buildings (in the story) mysteriously fall down across the city. We also wrote some fantastic descriptive paragraphs depicting what it might be like to witness a building collapsing, using a range of figurative language and other descriptive writing features.
Maths -
In Maths, the Year 5s have been finishing their learning about negative numbers. They had a good understanding of this concept and have been learning how to find the difference between positive and negative numbers as well as comparing and ordering. Next week we will be learning how to convert between different units of measure.
The Year 5s did an excellent job in their brass performance on Tuesday. We were all so impressed with how they have learnt to play their trumpets and trombones this year, with thanks to our Music Partnership. Well done Year 5!

On Thursday morning we had our Sports Day! Despite the heat, the children had fun in our field events and our year group races! It was great to see everyone representing their houses in their corresponding colours! Well done again to Chatsworth for winning the most points!
Next week we hope school timings can go back to normal. Thank you for to everyone for supporting our decision to reduce the number of children in school. It has helped massively! 😊
Homework –
Year 5 children have not been given homework this week due to our brass performance. We ask that both year 5 and 6 continue to practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
Year 6 need to continue practising their lines for our play and the song lyrics please!
Spellings -
Year 5 -
musical, accidental, mathematical, functional, natural, professional, cultural, central, global, industrial
Year 6 -
empathy, sympathy, biology, biosphere, geology, geothermal, photography, photosynthesis, chromatology, monochromatic
Have a wonderful (and hopefully cooler) weekend!
Miss Bailey
