This week we have learned about what changes happen in Autumn. We talked about the leaves on the trees and how they change colour in the Autumn and then fall, as the sun is further away. We looked at pictures of the beautiful colours of the leaves and compared them with the leaves in summer. We read the story ‘Owl Babies’ and talked about how the baby owls felt at night when their mother went to find them food. We learned that the days become shorter in Autumn and talked about which clothes are safer to wear to be seen at night. We explored shining a torch onto a hi-vis vest to see how light reflected in the dark. We also talked about animals that hibernate and how geese fly to warmer places for the winter and that this is called migration. The children were able to share the facts they had learned for our learning wall display. We also talked about celebrations that happen in autumn such as Bonfire Night and Halloween.

In PSHE we read the story 'Anna Hibuscus' Song', and talked about all the things that made Anna's family happy and that when Anna was happy she sang. We discussed what made us happy, such as playing with friends or sharing, what we liked to do at school or home etc, then thought about what we did when we were happy too. We smile, we laugh, we dance, we sing.
We read the story 'Owl Babies' and made such cute owl babies for our autumn display using natural object from outdoors such as leaves, sticks, feathers, etc. We gave them googly eyes too and they look so cute!

In English this week we thought about clothes that we need for the Autumn. The weather has turned colder so we knew that we need coats, hats, gloves, scarves and warm clothes. We then wrote simple sentences as a class, such as, "I put on a hat."

In Squiggle and handwriting we have practised the letters ‘a and d and g'
In maths we learned about repeating patterns. We all made a 1-2-1 repeating pattern using natural materials, such as conkers and sticks. We then tried to spot our teacher’s mistake with her pattern and put it right. We also tried to make 1-2-3-1-2-3 patterns too. The children did really well!

In Monster Phonics this week we learned the sounds b and h. The children are practising recognising these sounds along with the others that we have learned so far. We also practise building simple cvc words and reading them by breaking them down into their single phonemes like robots.
We are back to school on Tuesday 3rd November. Have a fantastic half term break. The children have worked so hard and we are really proud of how well they have all settled and begun to so much so quickly. Well done!
