We have had another good week in Falcons' class this week! Look below to find out what we have been up to.
Maths
In Maths, we have been continuing our work on numbers up to 10000. This week, we have learned to partition numbers to 10000 into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. We also learned how to flexible partition numbers in creative ways as well. We learned how we can find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more and less than numbers by looking at the place value and increasing/decreasing it by 1.
Here are some challenges below you can have a go at to continue practising these skills;
Partitioning Numbers

Finding 1, 10, 100 or 1000 more or less.

There are also Maths Shed Quizzes I have set on this week's learning as well.

English
In our English learning, we have been learning how to write the story of The Dragon Slayer by looking at a WAGOLL example of the story. We found features and phrases that we liked from the story. We then did some shared write lessons where the children helped me create a fantastic piece of writing about the story. We then planned our own sequels, ready to write next week.
History
In our History learning, we have been learning about the seven Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms. We found out the names of the kingdoms and how Britain was divided. We then used Google Maps and a key to help identify Anglo-Saxon towns and places in Mercia. Have a look at the map below. Can you and a grown-up locate and name any Anglo-Saxon settlements?

We also started to look at Anglo-Saxon homes and what they are like. We learned how they were different to the Roman style homes that the children learned about in Year 3. We learned about how Anglo-Saxon houses were made and what it was like inside and outside. Look at the pictures below. Can you explain the stages to building an Anglo-Saxon house? What is wattle? What is daub? What is thatch?

Science
In our science, the children learned about circuits. The children learned about components of an electrical circuit, such as cell, battery, wires, motor, bulb and switch. The children had a go at creating circuits, but unfortunately many of the batteries were not working, and there were not enough to go around! We will have a go at next week at creating more circuits!
Whole Class Read
We have just read up to chapter 4 now and we have learned that Magnus has been chosen by his father to become the heir if his dad, Harold Godwinson, becomes king. He has been gifted treasures such as a shield, a sword and a helmet. He has been tasked to go to the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria to see his Uncle, Tostig Godwinson, but his mum has said she is nervous about him going.
Homework
Just like last week, there are weekly spellings to practise, and this week I have also set some Maths homework as well. The spellings are also available to practise on Spelling Shed as well.
Have a lovely weekend!
