WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

22.05.26

Wow! I can’t believe we have come to the end of another fantastic half term! This week has involved play rehearsals, newspapers and computers of the future. Read on to find out more.

In English this week, we have been learning about newspaper reports. We started the week reminding ourselves about the features of a newspaper report, including: headlines; pictures; captions; the 5 Ws; direct and indirect speech; and writing in third person. We then spent some time learning how to include speech in a newspaper report, using both direct and indirect speech. For this, we revisited the use of speech marks and reported clauses.

In Maths, the Year 5s have been learning about decimals. We looked at decimals that bond to 1 as well as how to add and subtract decimal numbers. We will be continuing learning about these concepts after half term as well as learning how to divide and multiply by 10, 100 and 1000.

The Year 6s have started their play rehearsals this week. Miss Bailey and Mrs Jones have been so impressed with their confidence! The children have been sent home with a copy of the script and song lyrics to practise over the holidays.

In Computing this week, we have been thinking about the future of computers! The children learned about the main parts of a computer and why they matter. They looked at how computers have changed over time: from old machines to modern devices. They then used what they learned to design their own computer of the future, thinking about new ideas and features.
