We have had yet another fabulous week in Foxes class. It has involved clauses, scrolls, trains, and a 'Hello' from across Europe!

In English we have continued to base our learning around 'Sanvi's Egyptian Adventure' this week. This has involved: recognising and using relative clauses to add extra information to nouns; innovating the model text to improve detail and description; and planning our own finding tale. The children have planned wonderfully imaginative stories, so I look forward to reading their writing next week!

In Maths, the children have started their four operations unit of work this week, which has involved applying the rules of divisibility, identifying common factors and common multiples, and identifying prime numbers to 100. We will be looking at multiplication next week, with a focus on multiplying 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.

In History, we have explored the homes of the Ancient Egyptian people. We discovered what their houses were made of and looked at the interior and exterior of typical homes and those of the wealthy/noble. After learning about Ancient Egyptian homes, we each created a quiz to test our fellow Foxes! Towards the end of the week, we began learning about Ancient Egyptian jobs. We discussed the different jobs that were available during this time and considered where each role would have been placed on a social hierarchy pyramid. We researched a variety of Ancient Egyptian jobs, taking note of the duties involved, and then decided whether we thought each job was good, bad or a combination of both. Next week, we will be submitting job applications based on our findings!

In Art, after familiarising ourselves with the shapes, patterns and colours used by the Ancient Egyptians through replicating and analysing a range of artwork, we used the civilisation's distinctive style and techniques to design our own Ancient Egyptian scrolls!

Homework –

Children have been given a sheet of Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 28th September.

We will be conducting our first round of practice SATs papers in school next week as part of assessment week. Please reassure children that these are nothing to worry about. Your child's progress will be shared with you during the consultation meetings in October, and the assessments will be sent home with the children before the half-term break.
