Wow! It’s the end of our first week back already! This week has involved electricity, newspaper reports and Sports Day practice! Read on to find out more.
In English this week, we have continued our learning about Newspaper Reports. We decided to focus our reports on Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, which took place on the 8th May. We spent the start of the week researching all the events that took place to honour him as well as kind words that have been quoted by celebrities, the Royal Family and other important people. The children then set about writing their reports, making sure that they included all the features that we have been learning about, including direct and reported speech!
In Maths, the Year 5s have continued their learning about decimals. This week we have been focusing on adding and subtracting numbers with different decimals places. The children have all done very well while learning about this challenging concept. Next week we will be learning about sequencing decimal numbers and multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.
In Science this week, we started our new topic: Electricity. We will be learning all about electrical circuits and components over the next few weeks.
