Welcome to Year 1, Kingfishers! What a fantastic first week we have had! 

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning about how we can sort and count objects. We realised that we can sort objects into groups based on their properties (e.g. shape, size, colour, type). We then practised counting objects and counting a specific amount of objects from a large group.

English

In English we have started our learning on 'The Gruffalo' and looked at how we could sequence the events of the story. We acted out key events of the story in groups. We also looked at sorting vocabulary into nouns, adjectives and verbs. 

Phonics

In our Phonics next week, we will be looking at the ff, ss, ll, zz, ck and nk graphemes.

Spellings

These are the first set of spellings that the children have been allocated. Spellings will normally be based on the phonics that we have learned this week, but this may not always be the case. The spellings are also available on Spelling Shed as well, alongside other practice games as well. The paper copy of these spellings can be found in your child's Spelling Record Book.

Reminders

• Just a reminder that the Meet the Teacher Presentation is on Wednesday 16th, straight after school in the Kingfishers classroom. I look forward to seeing many of you then.
• We will change books on Mondays. Please email me if you wish for your child to have two books per week please.
