WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 9

This week we asked the question ‘What do bees do?’  The children found out all sorts of information about them such as their life-cycles, what they eat, the parts of their bodies, where and why they collect pollen, how they make honey and they they live in a hive.

We made a variety of bees in the art area.  Some children chose to make bee puppets; making a bee on a stick from their choice of materials.  Others made bees on cardboard tubes and we also had lots of great paintings of bees too.  They will be added to our minibeast garden display.

In English we read the story 'The Very Greedy Bee'. We wrote some sentences, imagining the bee had got lost and the other minibeasts helped him to find his way back home. We wrote sentences such as.....

We are excited that our one of our eggs has hatched into Peggy our new little chick!! We are excited and hopeful for the 3 other eggs to hatch. Our caterpillars have started to turn into Chrysallises! They are huge and it won't be long until they emerge as butterflies.

In maths we described position. We made a simple model using blocks, sticks, corks and 3D shapes and had to describe our models to another friend, behind a screen, to make the same. We used language such as ‘the red cuboid in on top of a green cube’ or ‘the green cone is behind the blue cylinder’.

Our Monster Phonics this week, we have been practising reading and writing cvc words and polysyllabic words (words with more than one syllable).  We also learned 3 new tricky words: I’m, very, old. We talked about the need for the apostrophe in ‘I’m’.  Please continue to read with your child regularly.  It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed.  Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.

A reminder that next Wednesday 24th is our Sports' Day. The weather typically looks to be the other extreme to last week when it was rained off. British weather!

Have a lovely weekend in the sun!
