WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 13

This week we've continued our learning about the seaside and asked the questions, 'What can you find in a rock pool?'

We explored the different creatures that live there and had lots of fun playing with our rock pool inside and bathing our feet in our rockpool outside!

We looked at the different features of the seaside and named them, such as the beach, rocks, cliffs, sand dunes and the sea. We then sorted human features such as houses from physical features such as rocks.

We have enjoyed playing with our Punch and Judy style puppet theatre too - acting out scenes with the puppets.

We wrote all about our favourite memories of our first year at school in our writing books. They are lovely to read and remember all those early memories.

We made maps of a treasure island in maths, and plotted features on our map for our pirates to follow to find the buried treasure! We marked on an X marks the spot, treasure chest, palm trees, rocks, a hut, quick sand, rock pool and a ship wreck! We then drew a route for our pirates to follow to find the treasure. Some children enjoyed using their map to play with afterwards, imaging they were following the map in the classroom and outside.

We have come to the end of our first year of Monster Phonics. We have taken the last term to really embed the sounds we've learned throughout the year and can now write with confidence using these graphemes. Please try to spend a little time if you can over the summer either playing games like spelling shed, or looking at the sound mats or high frequency words on our website, just to keep these fresh in the children's minds when September comes and they continue the next year of Monster Phonics.

A reminder that our last day at school is Thursday 23rd July, next week.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
