We are continuing our Growing and Changing topic by learning about snails this week, by searching on the internet, using books and watching information videos and powerpoints. We learned many facts about snails (please ask your children to tell you what they know!).

We explored spirals through art work and loose parts, just like the spiral shape on a snail's shell.
Our caterpillars are thriving. They are growing bigger by the day and we know they will soon make a chrysallis before they emerge as butterflies. Our chicken eggs are still in the incubator and we are counting down the days until they hatch. There are - days left!
In English we wrote a short story about Superworm. This time Superworm used a magic leaf to turn the creatures in the story into different things. For example, "He turned the bee red." or "He put legs on the snail."!
In maths we explored the concept of doubling. We each built a tower and then built another tower of equal amounts of cubes and found the total. We said the stem sentences, ‘double 4 is 8’ etc. We also noticed that the opposite of doubling is halving and could say what number we had doubled to make the total. Some of us noticed that whether we double an odd or an even number, the double is always even!

In Monster Phonics this week, we have been practising reading and writing ccvcc words and polysyllabic words (words with more than one syllable). We also continued to write and use our 3 new tricky words – made, make came. Please continue to read with your child regularly. It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed. Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.
It was a real shame that our Sports' Day was rained off. Please put the reserve date of the afternoon of Wednesday 24th June in your diary, and hopefully the weather will be better.
Have a wonderful weekend.
