In bold font, there are some questions for you to ask your child if you wish which follows on from their learning at school.
This week, children have finished their unit on place value. They have been able to represent numbers in different ways (such as with different concrete materials), partitioned them in tens and ones or flexible partitioning and compared numbers using the correct vocabulary such as greater than, less then and equal too. Children will now be moving onto addition and subtraction. Can you draw a part whole model to show how 24 can be partitioned? What about 75?
In English this week, children have worked hard to learn about conjunctions. Conjunctions have a range of jobs depending on which word you choose but they extend a sentence often providing more detail about the main idea. We have learnt about two different types of conjunction: coordinating and subordinating. FANBOYS is an acronym to help us remember our coordinating conjunctions. Can you remember what this stands for? A hint, the first one is ‘for’. Can you use one of our subordinating conjunctions in a sentence (e.g. because, when, if?)
Spellings: These are spellings we explored last week.

In history this week, children have been learning about the acts and laws that helped to shape the education system and make it much fairer for poor families to go to school during Victorian times. We have learnt about The Factory Act, The Education Act and The Elementary Act. Can you remember which of these acts gave children a break when they were working in a factory? Can you remember which of these declared education for free if you were aged up 11?
Reminders for the term ahead:
Reading Books
Books will be changed every Tuesday. Please bring reading diaries and books everyday. Please re-read phonics books at home to help build fluency.
PE Days
PE will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
Teddy
The children loved drawing their teddies in our observation art lesson so they have been asked to bring their teddy/soft toy back in on the 20th October.
Parents’ Evening
These are next week (Monday and Thursday). Appointments have been handed out – thank you for your fast responses in sorting this out. We look forward to seeing you then!
Thank you!

First Aid Workshop
On Thursday, we enjoyed a first aid workshop where we learnt some important life-saving skills. We discussed when and how to call the emergency services, learnt about allergies and choking, practised the recovery position, and tried some simple bandaging techniques. The children were engaged throughout and did an excellent job taking part in the practical activities. Have a look at the photos below to see our learning in action! 😊
