We have had another great week in Foxes class. It has involved nutrients, profile pages and personal bests!

In English this week, we have been familiarising ourselves with our new model text - a finding tale called 'Sanvi's Egyptian Adventure'. After comprehending the story in our first lesson, we were then able to explore the features of a finding tale in lesson 2, creating a success criteria for our writing. During the rest of the week, we have been focusing on developing our vocabulary and grammar. This has involved completing vocabulary grids, forming accurate sentences of varying types, and using fronted adverbials in sentences to add more detail.

In Maths, we have continued our place value unit of work this week, which has involved: multiplying and dividing integers by powers of 10; comparing and ordering any integer; rounding any integer to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000; and solving calculations using negative numbers. We will be moving on to the four operations unit of work next week.

In History this week, we have been learning about childhood in Ancient Egypt. We explored what life was like for children, from their education to their games, and discovered that children were highly valued in Ancient Egyptian society. We learned about the differences in education, comparing the experiences of girls and boys, as well as the differing opportunities available to the rich and the poor. After developing a strong understanding of what childhood was like during this time period, we compared it to childhood today, thinking about the similarities and differences between being a child then and being a child today, in 21st-century Britain. We presented our comparisons through drawings and venn diagrams!

Art - Our first art unit of work this year links perfectly with our history learning, as it is all about Ancient Egypt! In our first lesson, we analysed a range of Ancient Egyptian artworks. We considered why artists may have made particular design choices and discussed what these pieces of art can tell us about Ancient Egyptian life, beliefs and culture. We also created multiple sheets of tea-stained paper which we will use throughout our lessons this term. Today, we closely studied the colours, shapes and patterns used by the artists and replicated them in our sketchbooks.

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week relating to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 21st September 2026.
