WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

WC 14.09.26

Every week we will post a little something which will keep you informed of your child's learning. In bold font, there will be some questions for you to ask your child if you wish which follows on from their learning at school.

This week, we have continued our learning on place value. Children have been learning about partitioning, the value of each digit in a 2 digit number and writing the names of numbers all the way up to 100! Can you write a two digit number at home (larger than 50) and identify which digit is the tens and which is the ones? Can you represent it in three different ways?

In English this week, we have been focusing on nouns and adjectives, common nouns and proper nouns and expanded noun phrases. The children have been using expanded noun phrases to describe more about Burglar Bill and what he looks like. Can you use an expanded noun phrase to describe his coat? His hat? His t-shirt?

In history, we have been learning about what a Victorian childhood was like. Children have been learning about what school was like if you were wealthy compared to if you were poor. They also learnt about dangerous jobs that children might have been sent to do in order to have brought more money in for the family. Different toys and clothes were also given depending on wealth. What sort of toys did children play with if their families didn't have a lot of money? What sort of jobs might they have done?

In art, we have been using charcoal to make marks with. Children have been experimenting with charcoal to see how they can represent words such as 'tiny', 'stormy', 'waves' and 'fast'. Great (and very messy!) job!

Reminders for the term ahead:

Reading Books
Books will be changed every Tuesday. Please bring reading diaries and books everyday. Please re-read phonics books at home to help build fluency.

PE Days
PE will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.

Meet the Teacher
We will be holding a Meet the Teacher session straight after school at 3:30pm on Thursday 24th September. This will be a great opportunity to find out more about the year ahead and ask any questions you may have.

Thank you!

Miss Tymon & Mrs Taylor-Day
