WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 05.10.26

Our Learning

Well, another week has flown by in Seals class! It has involved divisions, skeletons, mummies and CPR!

English -

To kickstart our new topic, based around instruction texts, we re-enacted the process of mummification! Using a range of props, one of us acted as the pharaoh while others became embalmers. We used fabric to represent linen wrappings, jars to act as canopic jars and toilet roll paper to demonstrate how the body was covered and preserved. As each stage was explained, we carefully followed the steps of the mummification process. The activity helped us to understand why Ancient Egyptians mummified their pharaohs and helped us to understand the importance of instructions being in chronological order. Following this, we analysed the features of instructional writing and used thesauruses to develop our vocabulary. Next week, we will explore various grammatical concepts including writing commands accurately and using the passive voice.

Maths –

We have continued our four operations work this week. This has involved completing short division with remainders, using factors for division and understanding the long division method to divide any number by a 2-digit number. Today, we were challenged with solving multi-step word problems relating to multiplication and division

History -

This week, we have continued learning about ancient Egyptian beliefs. On Monday, we learnt about the gruesome mummification process. We found out why mummification was important to Egyptians and identified each step of the process. Children were then tasked with creating a comic strip to demonstrate the process of mummification. During our second history lesson this week, we uncovered facts about the 'Boy King', Tutankhamun. We discussed significant people, such as Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon, and how their discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb taught us a lot about ancient Egyptians and their lifestyle. The children were extremely fascinated to discover some of the many riches and treasures that King Tut had with him in his tomb! The children showed their knowledge and understanding of King Tutankhamun by writing a newspaper report or a diary entry from the perspective of Howard Carter or Lord Carnarvon!

First Aid -
On Thursday, the Seals were fortunate enough to take part in a First Aid training session. The children were taught how to call 999, spot hazards, help someone who is unconscious, use the recovery position and perform CPR. The children received a huge amount of information and now have a brilliant understanding of some very important life skills!

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 12th October 2026.
