What a busy first week we have had in Puffins. It has been filled with new routines, 5 sentence stories and getting to know each other. Read on to find out more…
The Puffins English this week involved them writing 5 sentence stories. They all started off by choosing a character, a setting, a problem, a solution and an ending and then writing a sentence about each. But they didn’t just stop there! They then edited, improved and added detail to them. All of them created wonderful stories thinking carefully about their spelling, punctuation and handwriting. It is clear we are going to have a wonderful year in English, shown by all of the hard work and improvement that they are putting in already!
The children have stuck next week's spellings into their homework diaries and we will continue to practice these throughout the week in our Dictation sessions and within our Early Morning Work.
Within Maths we have begun learning about place value to 100. We have had looked at partitioning to 100 and number lines to 100 as well. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown ups to show them a little bit of what we have been doing.
We begun our first History topic of the year which is the Stone Age. This week we thought about what we already know about the Stone Age and what we would like to learn about the Stone Age as we go through our topic.
The children have all read to an adult this week and are now free to change their reading books when they have finished them. If you have any queries about your child’s reading book please let me know.
Within our Computing lesson we are talking about Online Safety and how to know the difference between real and fake news. Ask your child about spaghetti grown on trees!
I hope you all have a lovely, well-deserved and restful weekend.
Stay Safe
