This week we asked the question ‘What is a ladybird?’ We have learned all about what ladybirds do, eat, how they live, their life cycles etc. The children can say a lot of facts about them as well as all the other minibeast we have been learning about this term.
Can you tell your grownup what you know about ladybirds?

We made ladybirds using a variety of media in the art area. We also enjoyed making ladybird biscuits! We decorated them with red icing and put on a number of chocolate spots.
We were so excited to find 2 more chicks have hatched! 🐣 we called them Rosie and Caroline to join Peggy.
In maths we explored and practised knowing number bonds to 10 facts. Bonds contain just two parts. We used numicon to make 10 using 2 amounts. We represented the same amount on 10 frames and noticed the 2 parts again. Some of us recorded the bonds as a number sentence.

In English we wrote a new adventure for 'The Very Greedy Bee' in the story we read last week. One day, the greedy Bee was fed up with seeing the same flowers in the same field so he decided to go on a new adventure. He was desperate to visit other places so he made a list of the different places he wanted to explore. We wrote sentences such as “He got in a car and went to the shop," or "He got in a boat and went to the beach", etc, using graphemes that we have learned during the year.

In Monster Phonics this week, we have been practising reading and writing onset ccc words and ccvcc words with previously taught digraphs. We also learned 3 new tricky words: called asked looked. We also used the story The Enormous Turnip, to practise this skill. Please continue to read with your child regularly. It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed. Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.
Sports Day was a huge success despite the scorching temperatures. Well done to the children and thank you for coming to support us!
Thank you to Sammy's mummy and daddy who brought in some of their goslings for us to see and hear all about!
Next week is our move-up day on Wednesday, where we will spend the day in Kingfishers in Year 1 with Miss Ward. Thursday is our trip to Twycross Zoo. Please look out for reminders about the trip closer to the day. The weather looks to be cool!
Have a lovely weekend we can’t wait for some cooler weather next week. Thank you so much for the support over the last few days with the change to our day during the heatwave.
