This week in English, we have continued with our learning on "The Rain Player". We have been planning our own ideas for a Maya story, using our model text as a starting point. We have also worked together on some shared writing so we could all really see how to go from the ideas that we have in the planning stage to fluent writing through the writing process. Everyone contributed brilliant ideas and we worked together to write a super story. We will be writing our own individual stories next week and we cannot wait to read them! 

In Maths, we have been doing a lot of work on rounding. This is something that lots of us have found difficult. Therefore, we have chosen to set this as homework this week. Most understand the rhyme 4 and below get down low, five and above give it a shove to know whether to round up or down. We need to think really carefully as to what place value column we need to look at and make sure that we read carefully as to whether we need to round to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 or 100,000. We have used lots of number lines to help us.

This week we planned our investigation in science for testing thermal insulators and designing new thermal cups. Next week we will be testing these to see which cups lose heat the quickest. In computing we focused on online communication and their positives and negatives. We had fantastic discussions about appropriate styles of communication, GIFs and even created our own memes. In PE we looked at finding space and dodging which we then added into some gameplay. In our music lessons we learned more about pitch, rhythm and beats and enjoyed singing lots of songs. Finally, we elected our school councillors in our PSHE slot and used democracy in real life.

In topic, we have looked at Maya homes and we have written some super house adverts for Maya homes. In volleyball, we recapped our serve and we had a go at our high catches. On Friday, we have also recognised "European Day of Languages" by looking at how to say hello in different languages.
