Art

Art in Year 4 (Kapow Art)

In Year 4, we follow the Kapow Art scheme, which helps children develop their creativity, imagination and artistic skills whilst introducing them to a wide range of artists, techniques and styles.

Throughout the year, children will explore different forms of art including drawing, painting, sculpture, printing and craft work. They will learn how artists use colour, texture, pattern, shape and line to express ideas and create different effects. You can see PDFs at the bottom for the specific concepts within each of the different forms of art that we will be looking at.

Drawing

Children will develop their observational drawing skills, learning how to use different grades of pencil to create tone, texture and detail. They will explore how artists use sketching to record ideas and improve their work.

Painting and Mixed Media

Children will experiment with colour mixing, shading and creating atmosphere within their artwork. They will learn how artists use colour to communicate mood and meaning and will apply these techniques to their own pieces.

Sculpture and 3D Art

Children will work with a range of materials to create three-dimensional artwork. They will learn how to shape, join and refine materials whilst exploring the work of significant sculptors and designers.

Craft and Design

Children will investigate patterns, textiles and decorative art. They will design and make their own creative pieces while learning how artists, designers and craftspeople develop ideas from initial sketches through to finished products.
