WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

02.10.2026

In English this week there has been some fantastic writing! We have been writing our own Maya narratives, based on "The Rain Player". Everyone has included brilliant fronted adverbials and have remembered their commas. There has been some great direct speech, with the correct punctuation and the handwriting has been wonderful. Well done Otters! To support our learning on direct speech, the homework this week is linked to this.

In Maths, we have started our addition and subtraction unit. We have worked really hard on our presentation as we have learnt that we need to make sure that we line up the place value columns in order to be accurate. We have been recapping how to make exchanges where required.

This week we had a fantastic science lesson where we created our new protype thermal cups. We wrapped one cup in a material and left a control cup unwrapped. We then filled both with warm water and measure the temperature regularly with a thermometer. We will discuss our results next week and write our conclusions. In music we have began to look at dynamics and carried on with our note reading and some singing. In PSHE we did a lesson all about hurtful words and we met Mr Green who became a metaphor for how someone feels when hurtful words are said. This helped us think about what to say aloud and what we should keep inside to avoid hurting people. In Netball we focused on passing, receiving, finding space and put this into a game towards the end of the lesson – they are really grasping the game and showing so excellent skill!

We had a fantastic afternoon at the church on Thursday afternoon. Thank you ever so much to our parent helpers. The children learnt about seeds, wool, wheat, clay and harvest from the ocean. They had a go at planting seeds, making origami boats, weaving and making clay pots. The children all listened so carefully. Well done Otters!
