WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 28th September 2026

What another super week the Puffins have had. It has involved Stone Age Cave Paintings, addition and subtraction, Stone Age chefs and drawing fruit. Read on to find out more…

In English we have begun our new unit focusing on instructions. The week began with the children trying to follow some mis-matched instructions. They had to work out what was wrong with the instructions, re-order them and then use them to create their own stone age cave paintings. Throughout the week we have focused on the features of instructions, how we can make them as detailed as possible and what we can add to them to make them clear. We finished off the week by improving and adding detail to our own instructions.

In Maths we have moved on to our next unit of Addition and Subtraction. We have looked at adding and subtracting 1s, adding and subtracting 10s and adding and subtracting 100s. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?

Topic has seen us make Stone Age flap books to show the difference between the houses that the Stone Age people lived in. Can you tell your grown-up what the different historical periods are in the Stone Age and what happened to where they lived. We also created Stone Age menus, thinking about the different food they would have eaten if they were hunters or gatherers, or lived in the later period of the Stone Age and were farmers.

Our Science lesson this week saw us learn about the life cycle of a seed. Can you explain to your grown-up what germination is?

Art saw the Puffins drawing fruit using some of the sketching and shading techniques they have learnt over the last few weeks.

We have carried on reading our whole class Guided reading text, ‘The Boy who Grew Dragons’. We have now reached the point in the story where Flicker is causing chaos in Tomas’s bedroom! What are some of the pros and cons of having a dragon as a pet?

Spellings as usual are on spelling shed and in your child’s homework diary. I am aware that some parents are having problems accessing the list, I am working on rectifying this. The Spelling this week is the 'Long O' and is under Week 4, Term 1 of our superhero spellings list.

I hope you all have a lovely and restful weekend!

Stay safe
