In Maths this week, we have completed our unit on addition and subtraction. We have been looking at using the inverse operation, solving multi step word problems and applying our knowledge to solve missing number questions. We feel that we could still benefit from more subtraction practise so the homework this week is a fluency activity to keep working on using the column method for subtraction.
In English, we have started our new instruction writing unit. We started the week off by playing our own games of pok-ta-pok, which was so much fun! We have looked at a good example of instruction writing and we have highlighted the key features. We have picked out and uplevelled vocabulary that will come in handy for this unit and we have used our retrieval skills in reading to answer retrieval questions.
This week in science we wrote our conclusions based on our thermal cups and investigated whether materials were soluble or insoluble. We had lots of fun mixing different items in water and seeing if they dissolve. We mixed coffee, gravy, rice, sugar and chalk to see which were soluble. In PSHE we had a one-off lesson based on Black History Month where we learned about Malorie Blackman, Sir Paul Stephenson and Robbie Clarke and created acrostic poems. In computing we learned about online bullying where we did some role plays and in music we did some fun dancing to the beat and carried on with note reading and singing!
In volleyball, we worked on our fast volley catch and set. In topic, we looked at the Maya creation story. Some of us have written some excellent diary entries and some of us have done some brilliant comic strips.
