We have had another busy week in Puffins which has included Stone Age clothes designing, taming Woolly Mammoths and adding 1s. Read onto find out more…
On Monday we received a letter from a Stone Age family asking us to write instructions for how to tame a Woolly Mammoth. Throughout the week the children collated all of the skills they had learned so far to create some wonderful instructions. There were huge amounts of detail, descriptions of how to groom the Woolly Mammoth, what it would like to eat and how the Stone Age family could make it feel loved and cared for. The children all worked very hard on their presentation as well!
In Maths we are carrying on with our unit on addition and subtraction. We started off the week with a practical lesson adding 10s to hundreds, thinking about which of the numbers would change and why. We have added 1s across 10s and also added 10s across 100s. We have carried on practising our times tables and number bonds as well. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
In our Topic lessons this week we have looked at the clothing that people in the Stone Age wore. We discussed what their clothes were made out of and what tools they used to make them. We then designed our own Stone Age clothing and described how they were made.
Our Guided Reading lesson saw us learn about the trials and tribulations of having a dragon as a pet, and why you should never take it to school! We answered some in depth comprehension questions as a group. We also worked out the best way to answer these questions, including as much detail as possible.
The Puffins stuck in Week 6’s spellings today, focusing on statutory words. We will complete the spelling activities for these words next week.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Stay safe
