On behalf of myself, Mrs Taylor-Day, and Mrs Addison we would just like to say that we have had a wonderful first week teaching the children and have really enjoyed getting to know them some more. We look forward to a super summer term!
In maths, we have completed our money unit that the children started before the Easter Break. We have been making different amounts, recognising different coins and notes and have used our knowledge to solve money problems. Can you show someone at home how you could math these amounts (think about the different coins you could use): 80p, £1, 65p, £4.20
In English, we planned and completed a letter all about our Easter Break. We showed off our writing skills to Mrs Addison and Mrs Taylor-Day and included lots of features from our writing toolkit, such as: capital letters, full stops, conjunctions (and, but, or, because) and expanded noun phrases.
This week in phonics, we have been learning that the letter ‘o’ can sometimes make the (u) sound, for example in love, come, and money. We have explored this sound through reading and practising common words. We have added some related words to Spelling Shed for the children to practise at home.
This week, we have started our science topic. We are very excited about this! Over the summer term, we will be learning about:
We have started with the unit 'Living things and their habitats'. We started the week by identifying if something was 'living', 'dead' or 'never been alive'. To help us identify this, we learnt about 'MRS GREN'. There are 7 things that all living things do, we call these life processes. All animals, including humans, do these and plants do too!
Movement
Respiration
Sensitivity
Growth
Reproduce
Excretion
Nutrition
We then looked at different world habitats (ocean, forest, desert, jungle & arctic) and discovered what plants and animals live there. Can you name an animal or a plant you might find in each of these habitats?
Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you next week!
