What a super start we have had in Owls class to start the new half term. They have come back refreshed and ready for the learning and fun activities we have planned over the next 7 weeks. As you know, each week we will post a little something which will keep you informed of your child's learning. In bold font, there will be some questions for you to ask your child if you wish which follows on from their learning at school.
This week, we have continued our addition and subtraction maths unit of learning. Children have been recapping their number bonds to 10 to use this knowledge to add to the next 10. Children have used number lines to show their answers and to help to support them to work out the problem mentally. For example knowing that 4 + 6 = 10 helps children to work out 24 + 6 = 30. Can you work out 74 + ____ = 80? 21 + ____ = 30? 57 + ____ = 60? Can you also practice your bonds to 20 this week at home?
We have started our new unit of learning in English by reading a fox fact file! Children are going to work hard to research and create an Owl fact file to share with you at home (in a few weeks!). Can you remember what features you will find on a fact file? Can you find a fact file on a topic you find interesting by asking someone at home to help you?
Spellings this week: walk, always, talk, all, call, grass, class, past, fast and last.
In history, we have learnt about the invention of the camera! Children found out all sorts of information about how long photographs used to take to process (many hours!) and what people used to do when they couldn't afford to have a picture drawn or a photo taken (a silhouette!). The children then created their own silhouettes. Can you remember the process of how a silhouette was drawn? Why might people have chosen to have a silhouette of a loved one? What was the most reliable source of Queen Victoria (a photograph or a silhouette?) and why?
Please find a few important messages for the term ahead:
Reading Books
Books will be changed every Tuesday. Please bring reading diaries and books everyday.
PE Days
PE will take place every Tuesday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on this day. We are also going to be rehearsing our Christmas nativity this half term which will replace our Thursday PE temporarily.
Nativity tickets
If you would like nativity tickets, please ensure forms are back by the Monday 9th November.
Thank you!
