Our Learning
Our first week back after our half-term break has been an exciting one! Our learning included the Ancient Greeks, a mysterious letter and understanding AI. Read on to find out more!
English -
In English this week, we started our new unit about newspaper reports. At the beginning of the week, we looked at our model text: A newspaper report all about a mysterious note that was found at Repton Primary School. We had to work out the 5 Ws: who, what, why, where and when. We spent some time looking at the features of a newspaper report, including: third person, past tense, fronted adverbials, direct and indirect speech. Then we conducted ‘interviews’ with ‘witnesses’ to gather some quotes for our own newspaper reports. Finally, we had a go at building sentences that could be used to inform people. We thought carefully about including some of the 5Ws in our sentences.
Maths –
In Maths, we continued our work on fractions. This week our focus was on adding and subtracting fractions as well as fractions in the form of mixed numbers. We also had a go at problem solving using fractions. Next week we will be learning how to multiply and divide fractions.
History -
In History, we began our exciting new topic on Ancient Greece. As part of our introduction, we explored the geography of Greece and discovered how its mountainous landscape, surrounding seas and islands helped shape Ancient Greek civilisation. We learned that Greece was divided into independent city-states, each with its own government, culture and identity. Using a range of Ancient Greek artefacts and artwork, we made thoughtful predictions about what life may have been like thousands of years ago. We also developed our chronological understanding by ordering key events on an Ancient Greek timeline.
