A huge thank you to all of our families who donated food for our Harvest Festival. We received an enormous amount of produce which we donated to the South Derbyshire food bank in Swadlincote. This morning Mrs Riley took two year 6 school councillors to deliver all of the food donated by our school. We were warmly received by the members of the food bank who told us how people can access the service. Elliot and Dan then helped to fill a bag of food ready for it to be collected. As a thank you, we were given a story book for the school "The food bank in the woods".
On Monday, Mrs Riley took the school councillors to Repton British Legion to help them prepare for Remembrance Day. The children helped assemble poppy boxes and then filled them with poppies, ready to be distributed to venues all around South Derbyshire to be sold for Remembrance Day. The children did a fantastic job and as usual were brilliantly behaved.
The Eco-Council had a fantastic day on Wednesday, visiting Brailsford Ploughing Match. During the visit, we watched skilled farmers compete to create the straightest and neatest furrows in the fields. We also enjoyed seeing a hedgelaying competition, where competitors demonstrated precision and care while shaping hedges.
One of the highlights of the day was being shown around by Farmer Tom, who generously shared his knowledge and experience with us. He taught us about farming, the countryside and the importance of looking after the environment.
We also explored a range of competition tents, which showcased local produce, crafts, machinery and rural skills. The trip was both educational and enjoyable, giving us a greater appreciation of agriculture and life in the countryside. Everyone represented the school exceptionally well and returned with plenty of new knowledge and experiences to share.
On Friday our Falcons' class in Y4 visited Tamworth Castle as part of thier history topic, learning about the Anglo Saxons. They had a tour of the castle and took part in two interactive workshops, one learning about, and taking on the role of, a Saxon Warrior and another archaeology workshop. The children had a great day and were great RPS role models.
Our Y2 children in Owls' class had a great afternoon learning all about life in Victorian times as part of their history topic. Miss Grimm the Victorian school teacher came to school and the children took part in a very strict Victorian lesson. The children also learned about many other aspects of life and roles in Victorian times.
