Our reception children took part in a Great Fire of London drama workshop to enhance our history curriculum. They had a great time, acting out scenes and learning lots about this historic event through their interactive experience. Click on the link below to see photos of the day.

We had a great day celebrating and raising money for Children in Need. We all dressed up as our favourite hobby or in pyjamas. We brought in a bottle top to represent our on-line donation and placed it on our giant Pudsey, each class helping to fill it up. We also did some children in need style activties in our classrooms this afternoon. We all had a great time. Please see photos below.
Yesterday (16th November) our Key Stage 2 children were invited to Repton School to watch their performance of High School Musical. The show was incredible and yet again we really appreciated being invited to one of their events. Our children behaved perfectly and this was noticed by Repton staff and members of the public that were also watching. A huge thank you to those parents that were able to help us walk to and from the 400 Hall.
Our reception children received a visit from police officer Bob today. They have been learning about people who help to keep us safe in our community. Bob talked to the children about the role of a police officer and the different jobs they do to help people. The children loved listening to him and asking questions.
Yesterday, our school was once again proud to be represented at Repton's remembrance parade and service. Lots of our children, past and present, marched to church with their uniformed organisations and some were even flag bearers. After the church service Harrison and Lily, from Year 6 laid a wreath on behalf of Repton Primary with Mrs Riley and I - they did a good job and represented our school proudly. Our school had been raising funds all week by buying poppy appeal merchandise - the figure raised will be shared later in the term when we know. Thank you to everyone from the RPS community that supported the 2023 appeal.
Our Robins class received some balanceability training this week from the South Derbyshire Active Partnership. The children took part in different activties on the balance bikes. Our coach taught the children to use "elephant strides" to power the bike forwards. They also practised stearing through obstacles and gliding for as long as they could with their feet off the ground. At the end, they played games and had a mini competition to put it all into practice. The children had lots of fun and developed lots of skills and confidence!
On Wednesday I had the pleasure of joining our Year 3 and 4 children on their Anglo-Saxon topic trip to Tamworth Castle. The trip catered perfectly for their history topic and helped reinforce the key knowledge and concepts they have learnt. As always, their behaviour was perfect and they represented us proudly See Y3 class pages for more upcoming pictures from the day. Thank you to the volunteers that supported us.
On Tuesday 24th October we delivered your very kind harvest festival donations to the food bank in Swadlincote. Our two Year 5 school council reps helped (thank you) and the ladies were so happy with your generosity. Your donations will go a long way to helping families in need in our locality this autumn - thank you so much!
On Monday 23rd October our classes from Year 1 to Year 6 made their way to St Wystan's Church for our annual gathering to celebrate harvest festival. Each class sang their own song and the whole school sang two songs together. Our Year 6 children did readings about harvest time. There was a massive attendance from our parents and grandparents so thank you to them for joining us and making it such a special event. Thank you also to Stephen, at the church, for helping Miss Hobbs set up the sounds and music. Thank you also to Miss Hobbs for organising the event and the volunteers that helped walk our children to church.
On Monday 23rd October I had the privilege of taking some Year 6s on our annual visit to the Repton British Legion to prepare for this year's poppy appeal. Our local branch is responsible for distributing tens of thousands of poppies and merchandise for a lot of South Derbyshire. The first job is to make the boxes for the poppies and then fill them with thousands of poppies for this year's campaign. Our Y6 house captains and school councillors then filled other boxes with poppies, wristbands and other merchandise for shops and schools in South Derbyshire. Their final job was to ensure all the 'tins' for donations were going to the correct places. This is always an enjoyable and worth while job that the children really enjoy. As always, they behaved perfectly throughout the session. Thank you to Zandra and her daughter Natalie for inviting us again this year.
