Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Thank you to all the volunteers that turned up on Sunday morning to help clear and tidy the garden area. A fantastic job well done! Thanks PTA for helping co-ordinate.
On Thursday our Year 2 children received some vital and enjoyable first aid training. The children enjoyed learning these new skills which could one day be used to save or help someone. Well done to our Owls for engaging so well with the training and behaving so well.
Today our Y2 Owls welcomed a very special guest. Dexter the (retired) fire dog and his owner, Dave, came in to talk about the role of fire dogs and fire safety. Although Dexter and Dave have now retired the duo spend some of their time visiting schools and sharing these important messages. Dave also talked about how fire dogs are used to detect the smell of petrol after a fire to investigate whether it might have been started deliberately. As an added bonus, Dave then introduced Ginny, a spritely spaniel, who is only 17 months old! The Owls loved stroking the dogs and having this special visit. Well done to our children for their fantastic behaviour.
Yesterday our Year 6 House Captains linked up with our partner schools in the UK and Kenya to share with everyone their amazing Viking day this week. They were able to share facts about Saxons and Vikings in our very own village. It was great for them to present this live, via Teams, to children in classrooms from Chaddesden to Castle Donington and Kenya! Well done to our Captains.
Today our Year 6 children took part in an immersive day of art, history and writing centred around the Vikings in Repton. The collaboration involved children from RPS, St Wystan's and key personalities within the village involved with history including the former head of Art at Repton School. One of the highlights was having the opportunity to meet famous author, Tony Bradman, on a Zoom call (he was supposed to be with us in person but was unfortunately too unwell to travel). Children had the opportunity to ask Tony questions and hear what inspired him to write so many children's books including 'Viking Boy'. He also passed on some great tips for writing an exciting story! Our children were also give a tour of the school and church site where the Vikings has settled in 873AD and where Saxon graves had recently been dug up. Our children also had a fun art session creating Viking shields using ink and bamboo sticks. The day finished with some writing in the crypt and church around setting descriptions. It was an amazing day, the children learned lots and behaved impeccably. Well done!
This morning our Year 6s welcomed a special visitor into their class to deliver a presentation about The Vikings in Repton in 873AD. The presentation was supported by two post-grad students from the University of Nottingham who came armed with replicas of Viking artefacts found in Repton and the East Midlands. This session was intended to set the tone for their immersive Viking day the following day at Repton School. Images from this will follow.
Please see flyers for this year's Repton Festival.
This Thursday (5th October) is school census day. It is the day in which next year's budget is set based on the number of pupils on roll that day. It is is also an important day for the funding of universal free school meals for reception, Year 1 and Year 2. School receives funding based on the number of dinners given on that day so more dinners means more funding for the school! Please could you encourage you child to try a school dinner on that day - many thanks.
It's that time of year again and our PTA Pumpkin Fest is fast approaching! See details below.
Following on from my assembly on Monday, about autumn, we have created a conker frenzy! Year 6 have been taking part in some old school fun by collecting conkers and some have had battles! It's fantastic to be able to encourage these traditional playground games!
